Peter Pan was the Boy who Never Grew Up, but sadly, the massive majority of us have been dragged kicking & screaming in to adulthood whether they desired to grow up or not. However, thanks to our determination to honour an ancient Pagan ceremony originally designed to keep sinful spirits at bay, there is day of the year where they can act as if they are tiny kids again. Yes, Halloween is everyone's opportunity to relive their childhood days of dressing up, albeit with a contemporary twist. The days of putting on witch & wizard costumes, complete with false, warty noses & fake beards are long gone. Nowadays Halloween is a chance for girls to doll themselves up like sexy cartoon characters, like Tinkerbell from the Walt Disney's Peter Pan.

The Walt Disney Tinkerbell's body shape was rumoured to be based on Marilyn Monroe's (but was actually inspired by actress Margaret Kerry), & has become an iconic character, & by extension, a popular choice for ladies dressing up for Halloween. This sort of costume is suitable for both girls & grown-ups, as it can have a more cutesy edge for the kiddies, or be a more grown-up, sexy costume for the older ladies.

The Tinkerbell fancy dress outfit is slightly different to most fancy dress outfits, as it is hugely iconic, being a Walt Disney interpretation of the character, & is much more respectable than lots of fancy dress costumes, where the 'sexy' element takes over, leaving the outfit looking trashy & slutty. Outfits like 'Playboy Bunny' costumes bring the sexiness, but are so revealing & over-the-top that they basically look unseemly & disagreeable. While a too-short version of the Tinkerbell outfit can look equally slutty, it is usually cutesy & respectable to get away with it. The Walt Disney element also reminds people of the films & their childhood, unlike the 'Bunny' costumes, so there is a positive warmth in wearing something that people are so familiar & keen on.

Strangely , the popularity of Tinkerbell has made her such a popular Walt Disney character that it is not Halloween that you will notice girls dressed up as the fairy. The fancy dress party is making a resurgence; partially due to the recession, & people looking for cheaper ways to have fun. Obviously, house parties have become more popular again, & what better way to spice up a house party than add a dressing-up element? This way people can relive a tiny little bit of their childhood, while indulging in adult activities such as drinking & flirting, showing that the Walt Disney character has as much of an adult following as a childish fanbase.

After humble beginnings as the mischievous pixie in J.M. Barrie's classic novel, Tinkerbell gained iconic status when Walt Disney decided to make a cartoon version of the book. This has given that mischievous tiny pixie a whole new lease of life as a kid's fantasy companion, & an inspiration for older ladies looking to dress up & look sexy.
